The market for wide-bandgap (WBG) semiconductor is forecast to continue growing at significant rates, driven by the adoption of Gallium Nitride (GaN) and Silicon Carbide (SiC) technologies in the field of power electronics where their efficiency, speed, and reliability make it possible to reduce weight, volume, and overall life-cycle costs in a wide range of applications. Whereas GaN has been gaining traction in the consumer fast-charging and datacenter power supply markets, SiC is especially well-suited for electric vehicle (EV) applications such as powertrain inverters, on-board charging, and DC-to-DC charging. Veeco’s long history in WBG epitaxial systems started with the GaN-centric Propel single-wafer systems and has now been complemented by the recent acquisition of Epiluvac AB’s superior single-wafer platform for SiC epitaxy, which achieves high productivity, ease of maintenance, and industry-leading process control capabilities. This presentation will discuss details and value propositions for both the Propel platform, now available in an industry-leading 300mm configuration, as well as the new Epiluvac platform.
Javier Banos is currently a Director of Marketing at Veeco Instruments, responsible for introducing and developing Veeco’s newly acquired Silicon Carbide chemical vapor deposition (CVD) products, as well as leading Strategic Marketing initiatives across Veeco product lines in order to better understand market and customer needs. Prior to his current roles, he was responsible for introducing Veeco’s Ion Beam Etch technology into the semiconductor space. Prior to joining Veeco, Javier held positions of increasing responsibility in sales, marketing, and strategy in the industrial automation industry and in the chemical industry. Javier received B.S. and M.S degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business.
